No Fun; An Interview with the Deans
By Chaitanya K.
Detention is the last place you want to be after
school. But kids who make mistakes have to pay the penalty. The Deans Mr.
Schneidman and Ms. Winkler would much rather there be no students in detention
than the huge groups they’ve been having to detain. Here are some things to
think about the next time your teacher tells you to spit out your gum or to
take off your hat.
What
do you do with people in detention?
Mr. Schneidman: When I find them doing something wrong,
I decide what punishment they have and sometimes use detention as form of
punishment.
Ms. Winkler: We make them be quiet,
and they take out some work.
What
do you suggest for people to do to avoid detention?
Mr. Schneidman: 1. Complete all your work
2. Be organized
3. Listen to your teacher
4. Always behave
Ms. Winkler: Do the right thing.
How
long is detention?
Mr. Schneidman: Detention is for 40 min and its Monday,
Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Ms. Winkler: From 2:20 to 3:10.
