Dr. Coppola Likes Rocks

By Cameron M.

Science teacher Dr. Coppola enjoys his subject and likes to get kids excited about it as well. By doing hands on labs with kids he’s able to get students right into the work.

When asked his favorite lab is he couldn’t choose just one. “I like all the labs that involve studying the different kinds of rocks. I find the different characteristics of the rocks to be interesting.”

That level of interest is what he’s trying to share with his students. “To me, science is a way of investigating the natural world around us.” One of the most memorable things that he’s done as a science teacher was creating a special earth science unit. “I created an introduction to the earth science course by using music earth beach balls.”

Anyone who has Dr. Coppola for science gets to learn a lot, and the other science teachers also teach really well. When asked what he hopes his students will accomplish this year, Dr. Coppola said, “I hope that they learn a lot about earth science and that they get very high scores on the state science regents.”
