Math is Funny?

By Joseph Z. and Damique L.

Almost every day we at Halsey have math class. Have you ever been bored in your class? It could be the subject, it could be the teacher is tired, but most teachers work really hard to try to keep a class going in those two periods.

Sixth grade teacher Mrs. Jampel said that what keeps her class going is her funny sense of humor, and her good stories about her life. She thinks this works because to be a teacher you can’t be dry, don’t you agree? Then we asked that when she does this should it fun and she said that yes math needs to be fun so you will have fun and learn at the same time.

Mr. Peretzman, a seventh grade teacher, said that what keeps his class going is his calm and relaxed environment of teaching. He thinks this works because now the students won’t be afraid to make a mistake. This works because if you made a mistake you feel pressure all over. So when you are in his room you feel all relaxed. Then we asked if it should be fun while doing this and he said yes because it helps the students learn better.

Math Department Assistant Principal Ms. Greenhut also teaches math and said that what makes a successful class is motivation, high values, and good character. She thinks this works because these methods help students understand better. Then she said that it should be fun as it helps students get through it without too much struggle.

So this is how math teachers keep their classes going, with a sense of humor, a relaxed environment, and motivation.
