Spanish Spoken Here
By Alyssa C. Do you take Spanish with
Ms. Rodriguez or Ms. Luna or Mrs. Chirol? If you do here are some things you
might not know. We asked them these questions and maybe one of the questions
will be the key to a higher grade.
School trips are an important way to learn about a
subject. Ms. Luna agrees. “There’s a trip on Nov. 23, to Queens Borough. I’m
taking my 823 class and we’re watching a Flamenco Dance in celebration of
Foreign Language Month.”
But even the most exciting trip isn’t as important as
learning. Learning another language has many benefits. According to Ms.
Rodriguez, “It gives kids more opportunity in life and better jobs.” Ms. Luna
points out, “It helps students in many ways. It helps them communicate with
people and get better jobs.”
Halsey is lucky to have foreign language teachers who
enjoy their job. When asked what they like best about teaching Spanish, Ms.
Rodriguez said, “Everything. I love everything about it. The kids and the great
pleasure from teaching my language.” Ms. Luna added she enjoys “the end of a
unit, when kids start saying things in Spanish. Their surprise and their
accomplishment.”
