Excellent Enrichment!!! By Edward C. and Mia L.      During extended day a large collection of programs are offered for students who don’t need additional help in Math and Literacy. We talked with several teachers who have some fun and interesting programs. Ms. Presser does Fantastic Photography and we were able to connect with her photographers and have them take pictures for Halsey Bulldog.  We also spoke with Ms. Gutman, who does Brain Teasing Math, Ms. Schwarz, who offers Dramatic Drama; Mr. Miller organizes and runs the Great Green Team who are working to bring recycling and other environmental improvements into the school. We stopped in to watch Ms. Bennett and her students who are learning Elegant Ballroom Dancing, and the one and only Ms. Stahl- Van Brackle who runs the awesome Halsey Bulldog News. Let’s see what they have to say about their programs. Remember you can join any of these fine enrichments. Ms. Presser - Fantastic Photography What is the purpose of this program? In my program, we work on editing and printing photos that we take.  Why did you pick this program to teach? I have a Bachelor’s degree in photography and I used to be on a photography magazine. What would you do to improve the program as a whole?  My club and I would like/appreciate if the school could provide us with cameras and laptops, instead of every student bringing their own. Ms. Schwarz - Dramatic Drama What is the purpose of the program? Students have the opportunity to work on different theater/improv games. Why did you pick this program? I want to give students a taste of drama. Is the program going well? The program is very fun! We will work on scripts later on. Ms. Gutman - Brain Teasing Math What is the purpose of the program? To help students excel in math. What would you do to improve this program? I think it would be great if more students took advantage of this! Mr. Miller - Great Green Team What is the purpose of this program as a whole? To make the school comply with the recycling laws. Why did you pick this program to teach? Because I am a science teacher Is your program going well so far? Yes because I have 4 members and we have a meeting with Mr. Surachi first thing tomorrow. What would you like to improve this program? It’s very hard because it’s the beginning of the year but, it would be nice to get more volunteers into the program. Ms. Bennett - Elegant Ballroom Dancing What is the purpose of this program? To get children involved in ball room dancing. Most of the children were involved in Mad Hot Ballroom. Why did you pick this program? I like to dance and I just think it’s fun and exciting and gets kids moving without knowing it. Is your program going well so far? Absolutely, we have over 30 students the kids, and they are enjoying themselves! What would you do to improve? It would be nice to have funds to bring in a professional dancer. Ms. Stahl-Van Brackle - Halsey Bulldog News What is the purpose of this program? The purpose of this program is to give students an opportunity to express themselves through journalism and an online school newspaper. Why did you pick this program to teach? I used to be a journalist before I was a teacher. Is your program going well so far? It is going incredibly well, I am so proud of the students. What would you do to improve? If I had a million dollars, I would improve the technology in this lab.      Wow Halsey offers so many different kinds of enrichment activities.
